RealWear Navigator 500 — specification and verdict
The Navigator 500 is not a headset you see through — it is one small 854x480 LCD on a boom arm that sits below the eye line, covering about 20 degrees. That is enough to read a checklist, a work order or a live video call from a remote expert, and nothing like enough for a 3D scene: there is no positional tracking and no second display. Everything is driven by voice through four microphones, so the wearer keeps both hands on the job. It runs Android (AOSP) 13 on a Snapdragon 662 with 4 GB of RAM, which is deliberately modest silicon for streaming and document work rather than rendering. For a training department it belongs in on-the-job guidance, not in simulation.
Fleets enrol either into RealWear Cloud or into a standard Android Enterprise EMM, so the device fits an existing MDM rather than needing its own console. The 2600 mAh (10 Wh) battery is hot-swappable and rated for around 8 hours, which is how a two-shift site avoids taking units off the floor to charge. IP66 and MIL-STD-810H mean it can be wiped down and shared between shifts, and mounting is by headband or hard-hat bracket rather than a face gasket, so hygiene between wearers is simpler than on a VR headset. Budget beyond the unit itself: a European reseller lists it at USD 2,115 excluding tax, plus mounts, spare batteries and any cloud subscription. Availability in Poland and Germany is through RealWear's integrator network, not direct retail.
Buy it if the problem is remote assistance and hands-free documents in a dirty or loud plant. Do not buy it as training hardware: our VR courses will not run on it, and a 20-degree monocular screen cannot show them. If you want both, pair a small Navigator fleet for field work with standalone VR headsets for the classroom.

Who this device is for
Maintenance, field service and inspection teams who work in gloves, helmets and noise, and whose IT already runs an Android Enterprise EMM. It suits sites that need a device to survive IP66 conditions and to be handed over at shift change with a fresh battery instead of a charging break.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
RealWear does not publish a per-model spec table any more — the figures here come from the shared Navigator Series page, so the 270 g weight and Android 13 base are the series' numbers rather than a Navigator 500 datasheet. The 8-hour battery figure and the launch-day Android 11 base come from VRcompare, not the maker, and the support policy states support 'at least through December 2030' without naming a real end date. We found no official brightness figure, no dimensions, and no current list price from RealWear itself.

The only critical hands-on this device has: a rugged head-mounted display tested for field service work, with the problems named rather than listed as caveats. Assisted-reality hardware is almost entirely covered by resellers, so a sceptical outside voice is worth more here than it would be elsewhere.

- How long will RealWear support the Navigator 500?
- RealWear's firmware policy lists the Navigator 500 among currently supported devices through at least December 2030, and states that supported devices will move to an Android 16-based OS during 2026.
